Message from the Chair of the 25th JSSX Annual Meeting

Hayashi

It is my great pleasure to announce that we will be holding the 25th JSSX, Japanese Society for the Study of Xenobiotics, Annual Meeting in Tokyo, October 7-9, 2010. The overall theme for this meeting is "The Role of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics on Bridging Drug Discovery/Development and Clinical Research". The Meeting will be held at the Omiya Sonic City, which is located about 30 min by train from Tokyo station.

The recent remarkable development of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) is very useful in the stage of new drug discovery/development. However, the problem on toxicity and pharmacological efficacy still remains, and the research of DMPK relates to these important problems. In the JSSX Annual Meetings, the importance of DMPK to drug discovery/development and clinical research has been separately discussed. In this Meeting, the opportunity for presentation and discussion on the role of DMPK on bridging the above two research fields is being prepared. And also, as the 25th anniversary since the founding of JSSX, a Special Lecture is being planned by the organizing committee.

The JSSX has been making efforts to develop globalization. Also in this Meeting, we are making some plans to invite some foreign plenary lecturers, speakers in symposia, and welcome many participants from all over the world, especially from the Asia-Pacific area, to develop international academic relationships.

In the 24th Annual Meeting in Kyoto, English was adopted as an official language and the oral presentation was basically held in English with some exceptions. In this Meeting, according to the questionnaire collected from the participants at the Kyoto meeting, the presentation in English is mandatory without exceptions. However, for the discussion in the oral presentation, Japanese or English can be selected if the presentation is applied in advance from the WEB. This positive oral presentation style is the characteristic in JSSX, and hopefully will be more successful in future.

In this Meeting, in preparing the scientifically interesting special lectures, symposia, forum, and luncheon seminars, we will welcome many participants. Please come to the Omiya Sonic City to discuss the role of DMPK on bridging drug discovery/development and clinical research.
