What is the Japanese Society for the Study of Xenobiotics ?

The Japanese Society for the Study of Xenobiotics was established in 1985 by scholars and academicians who foresaw and predicted the developments of the research of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics in drug creation (creation of new drugs) and proper use of drugs. This Society is a meeting place of peoples conducting basic and applied research on drug creation and proper use of drugs from the standpoint of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and others involved in those activities, and consists of full members, student members, and supporting members who support the tenors of this Society. This Society is a forum of pursuits of basic and applied research by pharmacokinetic researchers through our journals, annual academic meetings and workshops held by this Society.

Thanks to you support, the number of our members is increasing year by year, and now the Society has more 2200 members, who are actively pursuing the objectives of our Society. The great contributions of study of the drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics to the proper use of drugs, and furthermore, the roles of the pharmacokinetic sections in drug creation have been widely recognized, and we intend to do our utmost efforts in furtherance of research and promotion of our objectives so as to contribute to further developments of pharmacokinetics.

The Society holds an annual meeting in every fall, and more than 1000 researchers participate in it from the industry, governmental organizations and academic fields every year. We try to pursue the furtherance of research among our members using this opportunity fully, and make efforts to encourage researchers by awarding "JSSX Award", "JSSX Award for Young Scientists", "Kitagawa Memorial Award" and "JSSX Award for@Distinguished Services" to those members who have achieved excellent results in research once a year.

In addition to the annual meeting, we hold workshops of our Society once a year from the viewpoint of gNew Technology and Applications in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetic Study in Research and Development of new Drugsh from one year after the establishment of our Society. This yearfs workshop is the 17th one, and the workshops have been firmly established as major activities of this Society. About 400 to 500 researchers participate in the workshops every year.

DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics) is a journal of original papers in English published by this Society. This journal is published 6 times a year. If you click DMPK in the main menu, you can view the back numbers.

News Letter is a publication in Japanese issued with a purpose of providing information useful to our members, including notices to our members, reviews, letters to readers from the authors of original papers published in DMPK, lecture notes, and other information on the annual meetings, lecture meetings, workshops, etc.

We sincerely hope that pharmacists who are contributing to the proper use of drugs in the medical practice will join this Society.
